Description
Bamboo fiber is praised as 'the natural, green and eco-friendly textile material of the 21st century..."
Bamboo, one of the earth's most sustainable resources, is also one of the fastest growing plants. Most bamboo can grow up to 3 feet a day and reaches heights of up to 90 feet.
Bamboo plays a critical role in the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide as it releases 35% more oxygen, and takes in five times the volume of greenhouse gases as an equivalent stand of timber trees.
During harvesting, the stalks are cut, not pulled by the root, making this plant a soil conservation tool, along with allowing the bamboo to re-grow to be harvested again and again. Furthermore, the growing of bamboo requires no pesticides or fertilizer, making bamboo linens an amazingly friendly resource, unlike the growing of cotton which requires 25% of the world's insecticides, 7 out of 10 of which are the most toxic chemicals on earth. It takes 1/3rd pound of chemicals to produce just one pound of cotton (essentially one t-shirt), this causes an enormous toll on the earth's air, water, and soil and impacts the health of people working in the cotton growing regions.
